MEDIA FILTERS

Media filtration is used in the water treatment process to remove many solids from water or wastewater and requires little maintenance. Media filtration is a type of filter process when water passes through the filtration media it will remove solids from the liquid.

Water Wave Technologies multimedia water filter systems are preferabe complemented for use where stringent water quality standards are required or where higher levels of suspended solids are present. These applications can include re-use applications, water pre-treatment applications for reverse osmosis and deionization systems or as a pre-treatment system prior to a disposable bag or cartridge filters.

Media filters consist of a tank, a filter medium, a support system, and an underdrain. The filter medium is usually 24 to 36 inches deep and can be silica sand, aluminum silicate, or anthracite. The tank encloses the filter medium; the support system, usually gravel, prevents the medium from being washed out of the device. Water enters the filter tank through the top and percolates through the medium, which traps any suspended solids. Treated water exits the device via the underdrain. Unlike some cartridge sediment filters, media filters can be cleaned and reused.

• BENEFITS OF MULTI MEDIA WATER FILTERS:

  Multi-media filtration permits delivery of high quality filtered water at much faster flow rates, as compared to a conventional sand filter.

  In a conventional sand filter, lighter and finer sand particles are found at the top of the filter bed, and coarser, heavier sand particles remain at the bottom after backwashing. Additionally, multi media water filters function for an extended amount of time in comparison to traditional sand filters, since they are able to trap sediment and particles throughout the entire filter bed. This filtration process creates cleaner water much at a much faster rate than conventional sand filtration. The media filter comes complete with 5 valves and automatic controller to accomplish the backwash cycles.
